Burlington and Hamilton BACK PAIN ISSUES RELATED TO PREGNANCY: Osteoporosis & Degenerative Spondylolisthesis

Women with pregnancy-related Burlington and Hamilton back pain are welcomed at Spinal Care Clinic. 76% of pregnant women in a recent study described pregnancy-related back pain. Women who experienced back pain before getting pregnant experienced a higher risk of pain throughout pregnancy. (1) For post-menopausal women in general there is a better risk of osteoporosis due to the rapid bone loss attributed to estrogen reduction. Factors like obesity, age at menarche, breastfeeding, and parity also contribute. In a new report, the prevalence for osteoporosis was 35.24%. Particularly, the risk for post-menopausal osteoporosis increased with the number of children a woman birthed (higher at more than 4 children) and with the older age (highest at over 35 years) of the mother at the last childbirth. (2) Each full-term pregnancy increases the risk of developing degenerative spondylolisthesis by 22%. A hysterectomy doubles a woman’s odds. Why? It’s supposed that it is because of low back pain and decreased abdominal muscles during and after pregnancy that establishes the spine for this condition. (3) One study stresses the fact that weak abdominal muscles influence the stability of the spine and likely contribute to the condition known as degenerative spondylolisthesis. This condition is more usual in women. (4) Spinal Care Clinic gently treats and alleviates pain of spondylolisthesis much to the pleasure of our Burlington and Hamilton chiropractic patients!
