Frankincense and myrrh, two venerated
gifts taken from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia
and the Commiphora, respectively – make marvelous
partners in healing! Both have been tapped
throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, particularly
Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more assets
tackle issues with a variety of health
conditions, many that Spinal Care Clinic knows afflict our
Burlington and Hamilton chiropractic patients and/or loved ones who may want to
understand better!
THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh
Chinese medicine values frankincense
and myrrh for their extensively positive
health effects. Used together, their anti-inflammatory and
analgesic effects and notably for anti-tumor effects prevented
growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh
are parts of an anti-tumor drug for various
cancers with the latest research showing
its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By regulating
pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and targeting
the blood vessels that nourish tumors in HCC. Tumor
volume was decreased, and pathological structure was diminished
with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh controlled
urotheilial wound healing to help symptoms of acute interstitial
cystitis/painful bladder syndrome. (3) The
frankincense/myrrh combo is a
winning/healing one!
NEUROPATHIC PAIN
Spinal Care Clinic appreciates combinations of
treatments to help our Burlington and Hamilton chiropractic patients looking for
healing. Chinese medicine treats diabetic neuropathy, a serious
problem of diabetes and trigger of kidney disease,
by regulating pathways involved in the
glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-fibrosis, anti-inflammation, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic
pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is explained
as having the ability to activate blood and disperse
blood stasis. The frankincense-myrrh treatment
was put to the test and found to lessen neuropathic
pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to inhibition
of TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Spinal Care Clinic
knows all this detail may not be your “thing” of wanting
to know, but we want to share
the whole picture if only to get to the point
that frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great effect!
