4000 years of use. That is quite
a history! Curcumin claims it. (Chiropractic enjoys its 125-year history!) Curcumin’s history of dietary use in Eastern
countries like China and India offers much data
to researchers to see just what an influence
it makes on disease. And there’s a difference! Curcumin‘s
anti-inflammatory property is finding recognition
for positive influence on neurological diseases, cell death, and
pain. Spinal Care Clinic continues to study curcumin’s positive role in potential inflammation
and Burlington and Hamilton back pain reduction.
CURCUMIN HISTORY
Curcumin holds a long
history of usage going back 4000 years (1) yet a shorter
history of use in present day for its ability to modulate
levels of a variety of brain neurotransmitters in addition to preventing
cell death. Curcumin influences inflammatory cytokines, growth factors,
and enzymes. (2) Ten years ago researchers speculated
that curcumin may well be a “future drug of therapy for the
treatment of various neurological disorders.” Diabetic neuropathy, tardive
dyskinesia, and major depression are among those such orders.
They recommended more clinical
studies back then to place curcumin into therapeutic use due
to its “neuroprotective action” in diseases like Alzheimer’s, tardive dyskinesia,
major depression, epilepsy, and other such neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric
disorders. Curcumin’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties may contribute
to its neuroprotectiveness. Curcumin’s ability to reduce or halt
reactive astrocyte expression and thus preventing cell death is advantageous.
(3) Your Burlington and Hamilton chiropractor understands the role of
cell death in degenerative spinal conditions like disc disease and values
the potential curcumin has in addressing
cell death and reducing inflammation and thereby decreasing
Burlington and Hamilton back pain.
CURCUMIN DIET AND SUPPLEMENTATION
What is the optimal way to integrate
curcumin for maximal benefit? Diet and/or supplementation. A
curcumin rich diet is reported to offset diseases
like cancer and diabetes as well as decrease inflammation. A recent
paper on curcumin brings to light the role of curcumin in treating neurological diseases (spinal muscular
atrophy, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple
sclerosis and more). In order to effect
more attention to curcumin’s benefits, the authors share
the cellular and molecular mechanisms and clinical trial outcomes regarding
the use of curcumin in healthy people and people with such diseases. (1) Spinal Care Clinic
knows many Burlington and Hamilton chiropractic patients would like
the simpler supplementation route which is quite easy and effective. Spinal Care Clinic will share
what is right for you and your Burlington and Hamilton chiropractic
treatment plan.
