Burlington and Hamilton Back Pain Care and Bone Health Supported by B vitamins

B vitamins. There are many B vitamins. Some are rising stars in the Burlington and Hamilton bone health and even Burlington and Hamilton back pain relief spheres. Aging, osteoporosis, back pain, and related fractures are a handful of the reasons. Spinal Care Clinic shares new research supporting the testing of B vitamin levels and addressing any low levels with diet and supplementation as appropriate.

AGING, OSTEOPOROSIS, FRACTURE, VITAMIN B

We’re aging. We’re not alone in it. Globally, aging is growing. Along with aging comes the growth of osteoporotic fracture incidence and morbidity, mortality, and cost related to those fractures. It is quite an unpleasant circle! Preventing osteoporosis and improving the health of bone is a reasonable goal when considering aging. Dietary modification has been shown effective as has the supplementation of B vitamins. Recent researchers wrote that support continues to enlarge for the possible protective role of B vitamins especially B2, B6, folate (B9), and B12 for bone health. Research suggested that eating vitamin B enriched foods is one option to contain any unwanted effects of high-dose B vitamin supplementation. (1) It is important to get the right combination of B vitamins to be optimal for bone health. Spinal Care Clinic will collaborate with you to find out what is best for you and your bones.

BONE, BMD, HIP FRACTURE, VITAMIN B

For a long time, Spinal Care Clinic has studied the suggestions of Vitamin B for bone health, and the newest review article of 29 studies supports testing and supplementation of B vitamins. 14 studies reported that blood tests revealing low serum levels of folate (vitamin B9) are signs of risk for reduced bone mineral density (BMD) and fractures in older people, particularly women.  Taking folate vitamin B9 (500mcg-5mg a day) improved BMD in another study. Taking B6 decreased the risk of hip fracture. These findings lead the researchers to propose that checking folate and homocysteine blood levels in elderly patients with osteopenia/osteoporosis is crucial. They even went so far as to say it is mandatory. (2) Vitamin B is valuable for Burlington and Hamilton bone health!

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY BENEFIT OF VITAMIN B

B vitamins may well be a link in managing inflammatory chemicals through homocysteine control, methylation, decreasing CRP, etc. The roles of B vitamins – thiamine, pyridoxine, and cyanocobalamin – in back pain and other musculoskeletal disorders lean toward being anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive, neuroprotective, and neuromodulatory. (3) Big words. Big concepts. Big deals. Spinal Care Clinic offers that these effects are helpful in managing back pain, musculoskeletal pain, and issues involving bone and spine health via nutrition.
