Dizziness is a problem. Alone, dizziness can be frustrating,
but it can also alter balance and contribute to falls.
Dizziness with related cervical spine disc degeneration can be
a problem for older folks. Spinal Care Clinic shares
new research about chronic neck pain and its affiliation
to dizziness as well as the role Burlington and Hamilton chiropractic care contributes
in neck pain relief and frequently
related dizziness.
CERVICAL SPINE DISC DEGENERATION AND DIZZINESS
Patients with chronic neck pain due
to cervical degenerative disease often have dizziness as well
as neck pain. Many existing studies, both clinical and
basic science, detail the connection of cervical
disc degeneration and dizziness. A recent study indicated that cervicogenic general dizziness was diagnosed in 89% of such patients. Improper neck postures
over long periods of time may be a factor
when there is existing degenerative cervical disc disease. Men and women have separate
prompts for their dizziness. For example, farming, gardening, and
weeding may initiate general dizziness, especially
in older women. (1) Surgeons reporting on a new
surgical approach to relieving chronic neck pain pointed out
that current clinical and immunohistochemical studies strongly suggested
that chronic neck pain and intractable dizziness came from degenerated
cervical spine discs. The dizziness ensued with only
cervical disc degeneration alone without cervical radiculopathy or myelopathy.
(2) Such cervical spine degenerative disc disease also has been found to be accompanied by inflammation, particularly
inflammatory cytokines that affect mechanoreceptors like the
Ruffini corpuscles in degenerated discs resulting in
dizziness. The good news: a majority of cervical spine disc disease patients and related dizziness report
that conservative treatment is effective for them. (3) Spinal Care Clinic is the clinic for
conservative chiropractic care of Burlington and Hamilton neck pain and degenerated
cervical discs.
CHIROPRACTIC CONSERVATIVE CARE FOR
DIZZINESS
An Australian study of chiropractic care
of neck pain patients who also reported dizziness revealed
that chiropractic is frequently utilized by these
patients to manage their neck pain. One in five people over age 70
years experienced neck pain. 57.3% of chiropractors reported
that the neck pain and related dizziness was moderately
responsive to their chiropractic conservative care. (4) Spinal Care Clinic uses
the Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management in treating cervical disc degeneration
and its related Burlington and Hamilton neck pain.
